Weekend Passes, and General Admission Tickets Now Available Online!
The Center is proud to announce the 2008 Q Film Festival, which will take place October 10-12, 2008 at the newly renovated Art Theater on 4th St. in Retro Row of Long Beach.
The 2008 Q Film Festival will present several feature films and shorts, as well as documentaries, highlighting issues within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.
Opening night will feature local comedian, Carlease, and the showing of two episodes of the series Sordid Lives. The following cast members, as well as the producer and manager, will be present for a Q and A after the shows: DEL SHORES (MANAGER), JASON DOTTLEY (TY), ROSEMARY ALEXANDER (DR EVE), NEWELL ALEXANDER (WARDELL), DAVID COWGILL (ODELL), TED DETWILER (JACOB), EMERSON COLLINS (CO-PRODUCER & CHARACTER OF MAX), AND ANN WALKER (LAVONDA).
The cost of the opening night festivities is $30, or $50 if you attend the VIP party with cast members. Throughout the rest of the weekend ticket prices are $10 for shows prior to 6pm, and $15 for the men’s and women’s themed shows.
Pre and post VIP parties will take place throughout the weekend. Documentaries and Transgender films will be shown during the day on Saturday. One documentary being highlighted is entitled Teach Your Children Well by local producers Gary Takesian and Roz Esposito where they highlight school violence against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth, particularly in light of the incidence with Larry King. The evening will be capped off with a VIP Party and Men’s themed films.
On Sunday, The Center will show a collection of shorts, many of which were selected to be shown in the Cannes Film Festival, as well as Indie Fest. One such example is the film OMgasm by Actress/Writer/Producer and Director Alexandra Fulton. The festival will end Sunday night with a VIP party and the showing of women’s themed films.
Visit our website at www.centerlb.org for full film descriptions, more photos, and to purchase tickets. Weekend Passes are only $75.00 (VIP parties not included with Weekend Pass) -- so buy the pass and see all the films!
The annual film festival is an opportunity for members of the community to get involved with The Center Long Beach and to meet other community members with similar interests. Volunteers are encouraged to call or visit The Center to sign up for committees and assist with logistics.

By issuing same-sex marriage licenses, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom uproots the status
quo, attempts to change the way the United States of America looks at life, love, and marriage, and
ignites what is our nation’s next great civil right issue.
PURSUIT OF EQUALITY is an emotionally charged film that puts a face on American citizens
who strive for marriage equality.
From the first frame of the film, even before the press is aware, this film crew is with Mayor Gavin
Newsom’s senior staff as the nation’s first same-sex couple exchange their vows and ignites the
most controversial civil rights topic in recent history.
The story continues on the streets, in the courtrooms, and on the steps of City Hall, where same-sex
couples, finally validated on the happiest day of their lives, clash with church groups who declare
that who they are and how they love is a sin.
In life changing moments, this film focuses on the compelling, human rights struggles surrounding
same-sex marriage and captures the elation and despair of couples and families who are fighting for
equal rights.
As the only film crew in the Mayors Chambers during the most crucial of times, this extraordinary
film provides a telling ‘fly-on-the wall’ view of every turn as this historic event unfolds.
“…a moving document that put a human face on committed gay and lesbian couples who
sought -- and are still seeking – equal treatment under the laws of
the state and nation.”

Vote No on Proposition 8
EQUALITY FOR ALL Campaign Vote No on the Marriage Ban in November
Our State Constitution - and the law of our land - should guarantee the same rights to all Californians. That’s why we are urging you to vote No in November on the proposed constitutional amendment that attempts to ban marriage for LGBT couples.
This election is all about simple fairness. Regardless of how anyone feels about marriage for LGBT couples, people should not be singled out for unfair treatment under the laws of our state. Loving and committed LGBT couples who want to accept the responsibility that comes with marriage should be treated like everyone else – no better, and no worse.
It’s wrong to vote on people’s fundamental rights. The freedom to marry is fundamental, like the freedoms of religion and the freedom of speech – and that freedom must be protected. We all deserve the same right to personal privacy and the same right to decide for ourselves who to love and who to marry.
* VOTE NO on PROP 8 *
GET INVOLVED - GET THE WORD OUT!
Everyone’s help is needed now to defeat this initiative! The only way we can win is if we identify 100,000 undecided voters and persuade them to vote NO! We have the perfect messages to talk with swing voters, but we just don’t have a big enough team in LONG BEACH to get the job done!
Come join us in building a big team of volunteers by calling your friends and family, fundraising, providing or helping to find daytime office space and/or evening phone bank space. Or help in other ways. Find out more by calling Kathleen Campisano, Long Beach Area Field Manager, 202.577.3139.
Volunteer for a phone bank on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday evenings, recruit volunteers at an event, become a speaker or trainer, help with office work, help prep our clipboards with materials, find pizza and other food for volunteer actions, do data entry from home, help make confirmation calls from home, sign up your friends and family to help

MYTE Youth & AIDS Food Store of Long Beach
MYTE youth, parents, and friends joined together to decorate the 23 year old barrels of the AIDS Food Store of Long Beach earlier this month. They had “barrels of fun,” as one member said, and they also volunteered their time for the distribution of goods at the food store. A team from MYT E will return to volunteer again in the second Saturday of October and will continue to do so in the next few months.
No on Proposition 8 Rally
MYTE was involved in a visibility event for the No on Prop. 8 campaign by taking the corner of 4th and Cherry to rally with signs, distribute pamphlets, and hand out Vote No on 8 stickers. The youth involved conducted outreach for three hours and were out there raising awareness and visibility alongside a few parents.
