During an average month approx. 200 people come to The Center for free HIV and/or STD testing. With our new HIV Counseling and Testing Program, we will be able to test even more people a month.
During an average week The Center hosts over 20 social and support programs ranging from a coming out group, to living with AIDS, to bi-sexual chat - these groups serve more than 350 people per week.
During an average month, our Community Health Coordinator will speak to 250 at-risk individuals and inform then about risk reduction and health education.
During an average week more than 60 people are using our newly created mental Health Counseling Center, and that number is growing every week. By the first week in September, we will have 9 interns doing counseling at The Center.
During an average day 25-30 youth (age 14- 20) come to The Center to participate in our mentoring youth empowerment program (MYTE).
During the last 9-12 months public and government funding for every one of these programs have been either eliminated, or cut drastically.
The only way The Center can continue to support our community with these services, is with YOUR HELP!

SB 572: Harvey Milk Day
Perhaps more than any other modern figure, Harvey Milk's life and political career embody the rise of the LGBT civil rights movement. SB 572 would require the Governor to proclaim May 22 of each year as Harvey Milk Day. He was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in a major city, serving on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 1977-1978. Tragically assassinated in 1978 by a political rival at San Francisco City Hall, Milks legacy of equality, justice and unity is still felt in the civil rights movement today. It would also designate Harvey Milk Day as a day of special significance in public schools and educational institutions, and encourage those entities to conduct suitable commemorative exercises.
Call The Governor & Show Your Support : This call will only take about 30 seconds to complete. Call Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at 916-445-2841. Listen to the recorded message and press in the following order:

We recognize that the challenges in our lives may lead to isolation, anxiety, depression, and other health problems, especially in the LGBTQI population. It sometimes takes focused and knowledgeable professionals to assist in the recover process. The Center LB desires to assist people to enhance their relationships, improve healthy communication, decrease violence, address substance abuse, improve self-esteem and provide for a greater sense of safety and well being in their lives.
We are in need of volunteers who are willing to do phone banking for The Center. The group will go through a half an hour of training and then make phone calls for 2 hours asking people to make donations to The Center.
I cant tell you how important this is right now. Times are tough and money is tight. If you can give your time tomorrow, please do so. Also, if you have your own cell phone and dont mind making calls on it, that would be terrific! Phones and office space are limited here.
If you are interested, contact the reference desk at 562.434.4455. Thanks.
