Marriage Equality Update

In the  United States , 44 states have laws restricting marriage to a man and a woman, and 19 states have constitutional bans against same-sex marriage. This November, eight more states are poised to vote on constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage. Massachusetts is the only state in the U.S. that allows same-sex couples to legally marry, but once a couple leaves or moves from Massachusetts their marriage is not recognized. We have a lot of work to do yet and we need your help.

Volunteer for the The Center Long Beach 's Marriage Equality Project. Contact Stephanie Wells at stephaniew@centerlb.org or at 562-434-4455.

Marriage Equality Project "Phone Home"
Right-wing forces have put anti-LGBT initiatives on the November 7 ballot in eight states:   Arizona , Colorado , Idaho , South Carolina , South Dakota , Tennessee , Virginia and Wisconsin .

Most initiatives seek to enshrine discrimination in a state's constitution by outlawing not only same-sex marriage, but also any form of legal protections for our families. Many people back home don't know about these ugly initiatives or how harmful they are.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people back home need you to write or call the people you know and ask them to vote against discrimination on November 7. They also need your moral and financial support.

You can use this site to find out more about the initiatives in each state, send e-cards to people you know in the targeted states, donate to the state campaigns, download talking points and suggested text for letters, and spread the word about Phone Home 2006!

Click here to get involved and take action.
