FRIDAY NIGHT FILMS
DON’T GO- 6:30 PM (Preceded by Let It Reign: Imperial Court)
Directed by Amber Sharp
USA 2008, 53 minutes
Directed by Amber Sharp, this new television series filmed in Long Beach is a self-described “Melrose Place” meets “The L Word” meets “227”, DON'T GO is a highly entertaining pilot episode of a new ensemble dramedy that introduces a group of sexy, diverse characters (including Guinevere Turner and Nisha Ganatra) living in a Los Angeles fourplex. With its unexpected soap operatic twists, DON'T GO beautifully balances intrigue and romance with humor and pathos, all the while challenging stereotypes and mainstream representations of people of color with fierce authenticity.
Followed by Q & A with director and cast members.
LET IT REIGN: IMPERIAL COURT
Directed by Camrin Pitts
USA 2008
It’s not Dancing With The Stars®, it’s better! See the best dance show in town as Drag Kings and Queens kick up their heels for charity. Join mother-and-son filmmaking team, Kathleen and Camrin Pitts, as they take you on a wild ride of pageantry, illusion and performance that promises to “heal the world, one small step-ball-change at a time.”
Director and cast members will attend the screening and Q & A.
Opening Night Party at The Center - 7:45pm
Entertainment by Jennifer Corday, Drinks & Hors d'ouevres - $15
TRU LOVED - 9:00 pm
Directed by Stewart Wade
USA 2008, 102 minutes
Sixteen-year-old Tru is uprooted by her lesbian moms from her comfortable gay-friendly home in San Francisco and moved to a conservative, suburban community in Southern California. Tru’s only friend is a closeted football player, and even that friendship is jeopardized when she starts the school’s first Gay-Straight Alliance Club.
Najarra Townsend as Tru and other rising actors carry the film, as familiar faces like Jasmine Guy, Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura from STAR TREK!), Jane Lynch, Alec Mapa, and Bruce Vilanch round out the stellar supporting cast. Tru Loved has won fourteen awards at six film festivals.
Director and cast members will attend the screening and Q & A.
