Happy Holidays from Your Center Family!

While we all prepare to spend time with loved ones and celebrate this holiday season, we’d like to take a moment to thank you for being a part of our family here at The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach. We’re so thankful for your support and we’re thankful for the opportunity to share a few of the highlights that have strengthened your Center and our community over the last year.

Our LGBTQ community continues to grow in Long Beach and we are thrilled to serve a community that now has one of the only openly LGBTQ mayors in the country. Additionally, for the third year in a row, Long Beach has secured a perfect rating from the Human Rights Campaign’s annual Municipal Equality Index. From local support from our elected leaders, to national recognition for being one of the most LGBTQ friendly cities in the country, we have a lot to be thankful for in our community.

Unfortunately, even with what seems like an entire city’s support, people are relying on us now more than ever to provide a safe and affirming place for LGBTQ people who have nowhere else to go. We are serving more clients than ever through services like our life-saving after school drop-in  program called MYTE, where more than 75 high school students gather each  month to receive support and affirmation that they often don’t receive at home.More than 400 people have visited our sliding-scale mental health program this year to receive counseling for issues like depression, anxiety, and coming out. And even with all the education and outreach in our community, our clients continue to test positive for HIV at twice the LA County average.

With 20 social and support groups, free cyber center, legal clinic, youth programs, counseling, lending library, drug and alcohol counseling, HIV testing and more, we meet more than 25,000 people a year who look to us for services, support, and a community to call “home”.  Just as our community is relying on us, we are relying on your commitment to support your Center.  Your generous gift, either one time or through our monthly sustainable membership program, will ensure that we continue to support our clients who are in desperate need of services and resources. Your donation will also ensure that we are able to expand in the year ahead and continue to meet the needs of our growing community.

Finally, we’d like to personally invite you to join us at the 2nd Annual Black & White Ball on Saturday March 21, 2015 at the beautiful new pavilion at the picturesque Hotel Maya. Instead, keep your eyes out for a fabulous digital State of The Center address we’ll be releasing online in January. Your Center’s gone digital and we look forward to sharing more of our successes, along with a look at the year ahead, through our first ever online address!

Again, we sincerely hope you will consider us for your end of year giving. Your support and partnership is vital to your Center and to our community.
