Special Holiday Message from President & Chairman Ron Sylvester
Dear Friend of The Center,

From our family to yours, we wish you a very happy holiday season! As this is a season of thanks, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the many things we have to be thankful for throughout our community and here at

The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach.

This past year has been simply monumental for the LGBTQ

The Center’s Marriage Equality Victory Reception
community across the nation. Soon marriage equality will be the law of the land in 16 states and all of us in California finally have the freedom to marry. Additionally, transgender public school students secured additional protections in California and right here in Long Beach both the Long Beach Unified School District and Long Beach Parks Recreation and Marine strengthened anti-bullying policies to protect our youth.

Here at The Center we’ve also witnessed the tremendous

impact our organization has on improving health,

World AIDS Day

happiness, and well-being of our LGBTQ community. Our programs continue to grow with an increasing number of clients utilizing our mental health counseling services, free rapid HIV testing, and our

life-saving youth program MYTE. And in collaboration with Behavioral Health Services, The ADAM Project has screened more than
400 gay and bisexual men of color for drug and alcohol counseling and HIV risk reduction services. Add up these successes with the launch ofexpanded services for LGBTQ senior citizensand the first ever Long Beach AIDS Ride with 100 riders, and it’s been a tremendous year for our community and The Center!

It’s a massive undertaking to serve nearly 25,000 clients a

Long Beach AIDS Ride

year and we’re looking to expand our programs and serve even more community members in 2014. This means we need your support now more than ever. Your generous gift to The Center, either one time or through our monthly sustainable membership program, will ensure that we continue to provide excellence to our clients who are in desperate need of services and resources. Your donation will also ensure that we are able to expand in the year ahead and continue to meet the needs of our growing community.

We have so many great plans for 2014 and I’d like to take a

The Pink Party
moment to share just a few. I am so excited to be the first to tell you that The Center will
begin offering free comprehensive STI testing and treatment in early 2014! We’ve been working for years to make this dream a reality, and it’s a great addition to our successful HIV testing program. 2014 will also see the return of The Center Gala on March 15th,
The Pink Party in May, and in September we will host our
21st Annual QFilm Festival. Finally, in November, we’ll be back for anotherLong Beach AIDS Ride!

There’s so much more I would like to share with you about what’s going on at The Center, so please mark your calendars and plan to attend our 2014 State of The Center on Saturday January 25, 2014. Join us at the Art Theatre (2025 E. 4th St. right next door to The Center) at 11:00am for an even more detailed look at our accomplishments in 2013 and a preview of 2014. Afterwards, join us at The Center for a celebratory reception. I hope you can join us!

Thank you again for your continued support, and as always we would be so grateful if you would consider The Center for your end of year giving.

Wishing You a Safe and Joyous Holiday Season,

Ron Sylvester

President & Chairman
