Alice (Al) Marie Ivey is a resident of Long Beach California. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Religion and Philosophy from Chapman University in Orange, California and did her graduate work in Divinity at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. An Honorably Discharged veteran of United States Army serving during 9/11 and Operation Enduring Freedom, Al has spent her life in service to others and advocating for those most marginalized within our society.
Al and her wife Jessica enjoy using their time giving back to the Long Beach community by working and volunteering with various non-profit groups. Whether it be walking on the beach, hiking, or camping they also love taking advantage of the natural beauty California has to offer.
As a novelist, Al is dedicated to using her writing platform and her career at The LGBTQ Center Long Beach to make a positive difference in the lives of those in her community and to bring attention to policies and politics which separate instead of honoring and celebrating the beauty of our differences. Al believes that it’s these differences which make Long Beach, California a rich and beautiful place to live. Creating a society where we learn to not to just coexist, but embrace the beauty that is the population of Southern California is the reason she joined the team.
