Ismael, or commonly known to others simply as Ish, has worked in HIV prevention since 2000, is the lead phlebotomist in his department and has been with the Center for almost 10 years. In his tenure at the Center he has developed a trustworthy HIV counseling & testing program. Consequently, he was able to expand this grant in 2015 to include free LGBT dedicated STD screening and treatment. As the Center’s Director of Health Services, he has been recognized as Long Beach’s 40 Under 40, Steward of the 2nd District and selected to be a commissioner for the Los Angeles County Commission on HIV. Most recently, Ish continues to write more grants to fund the growing STD program and, alongside his team, runs a successful LGBT affirming and inclusive sexual health program. As program director, he has had the opportunity to develop and produce multiple local community events. Most noteworthy, the Gay Men’s Health Summit in October and in 2017, producing the Long Beach AIDS Walk.
Ish is married to his partner of 12 years and together he and his husband are raising 2 rescued cats named Perris and Calliope. He is a member of the LB and OC Surf and Sun Softball League, playing short stop or outfield.
