Otis joined the field of HIV prevention after he was diagnosed with the virus in February 2010. At that time of his diagnosis, Otis was not educated about the virus, but was determined to learn more. In his own words, Otis states that he,”wants to be the last person on earth to be diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.” He aims to use his experience to further educate others about preventative options.
Before joining the Center, Otis spent seven years working for a Dallas, Texas non-profit organization that focused on HIV prevention. Otis is also a respected HIV/AIDS educator and activist. In 2012, Otis was featured in an MTV documentary titled, “I’m Positive”. Additionally, Otis is an ambassador for the campaign “Greater Than AIDS” and was invited to 2015 Essence Festival to sit on a panel with Empire’s TV star, Jussie Smollett, to discuss HIV in America.
In his free time, he enjoys a wide array of interests from acting to modeling. Although entertainment is in his blood, he foremost enjoys helping others as it relates to HIV/AIDS.
